Apple today held it’s iPhone OS 3.0 software event. While iPhone users are certainly excited about the addition of functional push, cut-copy-paste, OS-wide search, and MMS, these are features that, if not standard, have come to be expected with top-tier smartphones.
Palm Pre’s multitasking feature leaves its upcoming OS, in our view, a serious upgrade over the iPhone OS 3.0. We’ll see how this plays out this summer, when Pre is released and Apple customers are able to upgrade their iPhone software.
This may be the first time that a smartphone has made its national debut on a late night variety show, but if the Palm Pre is as successful as expected, maybe the next iteration of iPhone will show up first on Letterman.
Engadget’s Joshua Topolsky demonstrated a few of the Palm Pre’s features on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon Monday night. One thing we noticed: the accelerometer display adjustment looked much, much smoother than an equivalent iPhone reaction. Not to mention this was demonstrated while sorting through multiple open apps. Pretty sweet.
